Studies show that the leading cause of death among unwed pregnant women is to be killed for not getting an abortion. This happens even after the child is born, as we saw in 2019 with Karissa and Billy Fretwell (rest in peace). The problem stems from the fact that the choice is not really a woman’s choice, but a couple's choice; because it effects the man's life too, especially if they are unwed.
The Maternal Rights Act, or MRA, is a public bill proposal, the positives of which are as follows:
• Prevents homicides by separating the couple's choice into two independent choices (hers and his)
• Prevents rape and sex trafficking by registering each unwanted pregnancy before it is terminated
• Provides an alternative to overturning Hyde by making the child welfare system sustainable
• Reduces the need for abortion by securing a reliable flow of child support going to unwed mothers
• Addresses overpopulation concerns by reducing the number of conceptions outside of marriage
The MRA is bipartisan; because both sides of our divided nation should support it. The pro choice and pro life factions should support it for the same reason: women would no longer be physically or financially pressured into getting abortions. The MRA would keep abortion safe and legal, while making it rare, maybe even rare enough for a fetal rights addendum, or FRA, to be considered later.
Because the MRA would separate a couple's choice into two choices (maternal and paternal), it would convert our current law into the Law of 2 Choices (see diagram), and those who support the MRA are pro choices. If the FRA were to be added later, then it would convert the law into the Law of 2 Lives, because it would not only protect the maternal life from a malicious progenitor (via the MRA alone), but it would also protect the fetal life from a malicious progenitrix (via the MRA plus FRA).
Those who support both the MRA and FRA are pro lives. Unlike our two factions today, which work against each other, the two new groups of Americans (pro choices and pro lives) will work together, raising awareness for the MRA, so that it can soon be passed into law. The idea is for the MRA to be proposed to a legislature by a male, and later the FRA, by a female.
